Divine Bodies is a short 3 page comic that was a submission to the anthology 'GARLAND', which focused on the theme of 'them'. I wanted to explore the othering of trans bodies in mainstream media and news, especially within the UK. I wanted to highlight how the transgender body and the transgender person are often separated, the body being seen as somewhat a victim to surgeries and medical transitions, begging silently to be saved. Meanwhile the transgender person is seen as independent to the body, seen as this perpratrator. I wanted to explore how this mentality affects trans people, and how the trans experience is not solely about the body, but also that the body is not a separate entity to the trans person. This was an extremely rewarding experience, and I love the outcome.
